Improving Food Security

Lacombe Composite High School is improving food security at their school by offering every student one healthy snack a day. The project will expand to include growing leafy greens on a vertical garden to use in the cafeteria. In saving money on ingredients, the cafeteria is able to offer more affordable food for the students at Lacombe Composite High School.

The Lacombe Composite High School EcoVision Food Security Project was showcased in this video, produced by Agriculture for Life. Find this and other videos on their Alberta Agriculture Stories webpage.

Inside Education’s Cultivate summits are designed to increase students’ understanding of food security in Alberta through the exploration of sustainability, accessibility and technology and innovations in agriculture. The development of school or community-based projects that focused on agriculture opportunities in students’ communities were part of the learning experiences at Cultivate. This student project was involved in Cultivate, and generously shared by Inside Education. Find out more about their youth summits on their website.
