Mushrooms for Meals
Students at Mountain View School began growing mushrooms in their new school barn. They will be using the mushrooms in a hot meal provided to students on a monthly basis, or selling them to the community with other agricultural products they raise such as eggs from their chickens.
Inside Education’s Cultivate summits are designed to increase students’ understanding of food security in Alberta through the exploration of sustainability, accessibility and technology and innovations in agriculture. The development of school or community-based projects that focused on agriculture opportunities in students’ communities were part of the learning experiences at Cultivate. This student project is generously shared by Inside Education. Find out more about their youth summits on their website.
